VKontakte Ads (or simply VK Ads) is the advertising platform for VKontakte, Russia’s largest social network. It gives advertisers access to users across the VK ecosystem: VKontakte, Odnoklassniki, Dzen, and a network of partner sites. For any campaign targeting Russian-speaking audiences, it’s among the primary channels.
VKontakte reached 93.8 million monthly active users in Russia in early 2025. It surpassed YouTube as the number-one platform by monthly reach for the first time. That’s 70% of all Russian internet users on a single platform.
Who it reaches
VK’s core audience is in Russia, with additional reach across Kazakhstan, Belarus, and other CIS countries. Users are fairly evenly split by gender and well-distributed across ages 25 to 44. The platform covers both urban and regional audiences, making it suitable for nationwide campaigns rather than just major city targeting.
Ad formats
VK Ads supports a range of creative formats. Universal Posts combine text, images, video, or GIFs. They support up to 15,000 characters, giving advertisers room for detailed messaging. Stories Ads run full-screen vertical placements for communities, apps, websites, and lead forms. Carousels and Collages support product browsing and multi-image creative. Audio Ads run across VKontakte, Odnoklassniki, and VK Music on both mobile and desktop.
Automatic creative generation can produce video from static materials, and intelligent cropping adapts creatives to different placements without manual resizing.
Targeting
Targeting options include age, gender, location, interests, and behavioral segments. Community targeting lets you reach subscribers of specific VK communities, including competitor pages. Audience Import brings in existing customer data from VK or external sources. The VK Pixel and Event Builder track on-site actions (add to cart, registration, purchase) without requiring code changes. Advertisers can also target by app installation status for app-focused campaigns.
Bidding and optimization
VK Ads offers four bidding strategies: Lowest Cost, Cost Cap, Fixed Price, and Maximum Impressions. Advertisers choose based on their KPI, whether that’s leads, views, or reach. A built-in benchmarking tool lets advertisers compare campaign results against competitors. This makes it easier to spot where optimization will have the most impact.
